Join Me for Coffee is a long-running series at MASS AWIS that provides a great opportunity for women in science who are seeking career development or simply inspiration. Participants will not only learn about that person’s career but also establish a new professional connection. These events are a great opportunity for participants to practice networking in an intimate setting, a skill that helps open doors to meaningful careers in STEM.

The upcoming ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event will be in-person and will feature Júlia  Smithing. If you would like to participate in this ‘Join Me for Coffee’ event, first complete the event application form. A committee will then review all applications and select 4-6 participants for each event. Selected applicants will be notified by email at least one week prior to the event.

Júlia Smithing is a Medical Illustrator and Animator at Trial Exhibits, a full-service consulting, exhibits, and trial presentation company which provided services for over 18,000 cases throughout the United States for over 30 years.

Júlia’s educational journey, spanning across Hungary, Singapore, and the United States, forms the foundation of her adaptable, scientific, and community-driven approach. Her belief in giving back to the community is deeply intertwined with her commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.

She thrives within collaborative teams, where she continually learns from peers, fosters equilibrium, and contributes to collective success.

Her graduate school experience at Augusta University, as well as her undergraduate degree from Boston University, led her to become the dedicated Medical Illustrator she is today, continually expanding her skill set to better assist healthcare professionals through her meticulously crafted illustrations and animations. Her forte lies in evoking profound emotional responses through her skilled use of color, and she has a passion for illustrating pediatric cases.

Over the past year, Júlia has started a new career in the Medical Legal field and has exhibited her work at prestigious events such as the Annual Meeting for the Association of Medical Illustrators, and the Student Science and Medical Illustration Exhibition at the University of Georgia.

Registration fee: $5 for MASS AWIS members, $15 for non-members
