MASS AWIS welcomes and appreciates any volunteers and has a variety of options available in our committees.
We ask that volunteers be members.
While we welcome general volunteer inquiries, we also have specific volunteer positions we are seeking:


Position: SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER

Description: The sponsorship committee is responsible for cultivating relationships with outside entities in order to secure funding for MASS AWIS events and programs. The committee strives to advocate, connect, and build bridges between MASS AWIS and the sponsor community.

We are currently seeking volunteers to:

  • Secure funding and resources through networking and engagement with current and potential sponsors
  • Source and apply for grants to support MASS AWIS
  • Represent the sponsorship committee at MASS AWIS events
  • Collaborate with the Event Committee to ensure sponsors’ interests are represented at MASS AWIS events (e.g. advertising, sponsor participation)
  • Attend quarterly committee meetings

Desired Skills:

  • Google Drive
  • Organizational skills
  • Written and oral communication skills

Time commitment: 2-4 hours/month, but can vary pending availability.

Position: OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER

Description: The Outreach & Engagement Committee aims to build awareness and further the growth of MASS AWIS, improve our members’ experience, and support and develop strategic plans and initiatives. If you want to develop leadership skills, expand your network, and give back to the community, join our team!

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following positions:

Event Associate

  • Represent MASS AWIS at local events
  • Foster collaborations with local organizations

Data Coordinator

  • Analyze membership data and identify trends
  • Identify opportunities for growth

Marketing Coordinator

  • Create marketing materials (brochures, flyers, etc.)
  • Develop and assist with marketing initiatives

Members and Volunteers Coordinator

  • Support and engage members and volunteers
  • Develop surveys and coordinate activities to improve members’ experience

Time commitment: ~3-5 hrs/month, but can vary (i.e. be more or less) depending on your time availability.

Position: EVENTS COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER

Description: The Events Committee organizes 10-12 social and educational events annually for the STEMM community here in the Greater Boston area. Join us to strengthen your leadership skills, network with diverse professionals in STEMM, and meet the wonderful team of ladies on our committee.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us organize and brainstorm our upcoming events.

Time commitment: Expect to dedicate an average of 1-3 hours/week to the organization of each event. Note that this time occurs in peaks. It is likely that the tasks you are assigned will require little effort for a few weeks and then lots of attention during short spurts of time.

Positions: COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE 

Description: our committee is responsible for disseminating MASS AWIS’s information such as events, the mentoring circles and scholarship announcements as well as any information to the public through several media outlets.

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following positions:

Website developer

  • Maintain and update the website

Previous experience with WordPress and html coding is a plus.

Social Media Manager

  • Check our social media calendar on a weekly basis
  • Schedule posts on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn on a weekly basis
  • Analyze Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn data at the beginning of each month
  • Prepare a data report to send to co-chairs at the beginning of each month

This role does not require experience but experience is a plus. We are looking for someone reliable and has the time to ensure our social media calendar is full at all times.

Photographer

  • Capture and edit photos
  • Post photos on the website

This role requires some photography and photo editing skills. Ownership of a DSLR camera is a plus. Also, volunteers must be available during most evenings.

Listserv administrator

  • Compose and schedule bimonthly newsletters
  • Send out emails about events, scholarships and other announcements
  • Update the MASS AWIS mailing list

Time commitment: 1-2 hours/week, varies depending on the assignment

Position: MENTORING COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER

Description: The mentoring program aims to help both mentor and mentee to set important development goals and competence for their career. We are currently looking for volunteers to help run our mentoring program. Throughout the volunteering experience, you will have a chance to lead/co-lead an event, as well as serve as a connector of our mentoring circles.

Open positions: 2-3

Time commitment: 4-5 hours/month, but may vary depending on the position/role in the committee

Position: TREASURY VOLUNTEERS

Description: Join the treasury to strengthen your skills in general financial oversight, budget preparation, financial reporting, banking, book-keeping and record-keeping.

We need volunteers to assist in the following:

  • Downloading PayPal transaction records and comparing with registration record from Constant Contact to summarize revenues from each event
  • Issuing reimbursements as requested and compile, request and record receipts
  • Working with all the committees to draft the budget for the year
  • Providing Budget overviews, updates and concerns (if any) to quarterly board meetings
  • Facility with Microsoft Excel is a plus

Time commitment: 2-4 hours a month, but can vary
